Unveiling the Journey of MOMA and Their Local Delicious Oat Drink

As a plant-based milk lover, have you ever wondered what it’s like inside the factory of this tasty creation? We recently had a great chat with the MOMA team, and they shared with us all the exciting details about their locally produced oat drink and their factory located right in the UK. Want to know more about it? Let's dive into the story of MOMA and discover what makes their oat drink truly exceptional!

From Oat Obsession to Oat Drink Revolution

For over 17 years, oats have been MOMA’s greatest obsession! It all started in 2006 when they set up a makeshift stall at Waterloo station, serving oat-based breakfasts and smoothies to hungry commuters. Over the years, their range expanded to include delicious porridge and breakfast cereals. Then, in 2020, they decided to take a leap and introduced their very first oat drinks. The response has been incredible, with MOMA winning Great Taste Awards for their oat drinks and gaining a loyal customer base, including numerous coffee shops. Venturing into this new product category has been an incredible journey for MOMA, opening doors, especially in the world of coffee.

Crafted with Care: What Sets MOMA Oat Drink Apart

So, with all the plant-based milk options in the market nowadays, what sets MOMA oat drink apart from the others? It's their unwavering commitment to care and attention to detail! MOMA hired their own oat scientist to unlock the secrets of creating a fantastic oat drink at a molecular level. They spent two years and tested 250 recipes before finally perfecting their current recipe. The entire team, consisting of 18 dedicated individuals, were involved in the rigorous taste testing process. Their hard work paid off when they were awarded Great Taste awards for each of their four oat drinks. Baristas, too, have fallen in love with the taste and quality of MOMA products, and that's something they are immensely proud of.

Inside the MOMA Factory

You might be wondering where MOMA oat drink is produced. Well, they made the delightful decision to bring production to the UK in May 2022. They now have a small factory located in the beautiful South West region. During a team day out in March, they had the opportunity to witness the entire oat drink production process, from mixing to packing. The team was impressed to see how their recipes, initially created in their Deptford office kitchen lab, are now scaled up to a full-scale factory production line!

The Barista's Secret: Original Oat Drink vs. Barista Oat Drink

Now, let's talk about the difference between their Original oat drink and Barista oat drink. The key distinction lies in the fat content. MOMA understood that to achieve that silky micro-foam and replicate the creaminess of whole dairy milk, a higher fat content was necessary for their Barista oat drink. This added richness creates a velvety mouthfeel that perfectly complements flat whites and lattes, making it the preferred choice for baristas.

Sustainability at Heart

As a plant-based food and beverage company, MOMA strongly values environmental sustainability. They took a significant step to reduce food miles by moving their oat drink production to the UK, Moreover, they are committed to sourcing their oats from within 100 miles of their factory, ensuring the lowest possible carbon footprint. Building strong relationships with their oat growers is also a key focus for MOMA, similar tothe deep connections specialty coffee companies have with their coffee farmers. Sustainability is at the heart of everything they do.

What's Brewing Next?

As curious as we were, the team shared that there are new and exciting products in the pipeline but they are top secrets at the moment. We can only anticipate more oat-based goodness from them in the future!
